Lighthouse9000, here I come😎

What have I gotten myself into this time? I’ve always really enjoyed coding when I’ve attempted it – the same way someone likes singing in the car. Except, for me, it’s also the kind where all my dev friends beg me to take lessons and stop using <font> and <menu> – sorry Don! That’s why I am taking on the Lighthouse Labs 21-Day Coding Challenge, and challenging my JavaScript knowledge for 3 weeks. My mission is simple: code for 21 days straight and dazzle developers with my JavaScript lingo at my next meetup. Should be simple enough, right?

Despite being surrounded by amazing developer talent at Lighthouse Labs, my understanding of coding is slightly more than the everyday millennial. For the past two years, I’ve spent my days contributing to our inclusive, supportive learning environment on behalf of others without really prioritizing my own personal growth and coding journey. Through the 21-Day Coding Challenge, I’m hoping I can learn the process of learning to code and make it a habit. It’s a task every future bootcamp student has to overcome, and as someone (like everyone at LHL!) who is invested in that adventure, I’d love to deepen my understanding and experience it myself.

In full transparency, I have been pretty involved with the marketing strategy and approach for the challenge through Lighthouse Labs. I have, however, not been able to access any of the actual challenge content. So each day will be a surprise for me too!

Between October 1st and 21st, Rachel and I will be updating this blog every day with our thoughts on the challenge, resources we used to overcome hurdles, and more. You will also be able to find us on Instagram @lighthouselabs throughout the day and on the forums!
